The Buderim Foundation has launched an appeal for donations of artworks. The intention is to auction these works towards the end of the Foundation’s 2018 Community Challenge to boost its trust funds, whose earnings are dedicated to making grants to local community groups.
The Community Challenge marks the 10th year of the Foundation making grants to support the work of these community groups.
In that decade, earnings on the trust funds, whose combined assets now stand at almost $1.5million, have enabled the Foundation to distribute almost $400000 in grants.
The art auction is one of several special initiatives undertaken in the 2018 Community Challenge year.
Foundation Chair Russell Stitz said the idea is that people may, over years, have collected art works which they are no longer able to display in their homes but which they may be happy to donate to help their community, knowing that those works will go to new homes where they will continue to be enjoyed and valued.
“We are hoping for offers of works created by either past or present professional artists, artisan craftsmen, and sculptors. It does not matter whether the work is large or small, but it must be original, well-crafted and in good condition,” Dr Stitz said.
Several recognised art experts have volunteered their services to the Foundation to make sure that the history and authenticity of the donated works is respected, and that the auction is conducted in a manner which recognises their value and importance.
The Buderim Foundation Art Auction is planned to take place before Christmas 2018 but it will only be possible through the generous support of art lovers and owners.
Offers of art donations need to be made by 30th June to allow time for expert appraisals and cataloging of the works.
