Buderim Foundation Thompson Fund grants available for Sunshine Coast organisations helping those in need

Applications are now open for the 2022 Buderim Foundation Thompson Fund to assist eligible charity organisations that help those in need throughout the Sunshine Coast community.

The Buderim Foundation became the trustee for the Thompson Charitable Trust in 2021 and this will be the second year the Foundation has offered grants from the fund.

Foundation Grants Committee chair, Rebecca Ramsay said Organisations that provide services for those unable to achieve a modest standard of living, were invited to assess their eligibility for the 2022 grants program from 4th April 2022, with applications closing on 8th May.

“In 2021, four organisations providing support to people experiencing homelessness and financial distress due to domestic violence and other circumstance on the Sunshine Coast, were awarded grants totalling $110,000 from the Buderim Foundation Thompson Fund,” Mrs Ramsay said.

Sunshine Coast Rugby League Team Launch 2022 Season with support of Sunshine Mitre 10

The Sunshine Coast Falcons will take to the field for the first home game of the 2022 QRL season this weekend with the backing of Sunshine Mitre 10, one of the largest independently operated hardware suppliers in Queensland.

Following their sponsorship of the club in 2021, Sunshine Mitre 10 have signed on for a 3-year partnership.

Sunshine Mitre 10 general manager Neil Hutchins said the Falcon’s sponsorship was part of the organisation’s commitment to supporting local sporting and community organisations where they operated.

“We really enjoyed being part of the Sunshine Coast Falcons last year and like Sunshine Mitre 10 the Club has deep roots in the Sunshine Coast community,” Mr Hutchins said.

Buderim set for stellar BWMCA 75th Anniversary Celebrations

BUDERIM will be swinging back to the 1940s for a very special weekend of celebrations on the weekend of 27th to 29th May, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Buderim War Memorial Community Association.

With celebrations delayed from 2020 due to COVID, BWMCA President Errol Richardson said everyone in the organisation was more than ready to celebrate.

Mr Richardson said the weekend would begin with a 1940s Musical Extravaganza Concert on Friday 27th May, followed by a 1940s Big Band Dance on Saturday 28th May.

Sunshine Mitre 10’s new Distribution Centre secures supplies for building and trade customers

Sunshine Mitre 10 has expanded their Distribution network to help ensure builders and tradies have access to all the materials they need.

The new purpose-built Distribution Centre at Kunda Park was secured in 2021 and officially opened this year.

Sunshine Mitre 10 General Manager Neil Hutchins said the new facilities are a specific response to industry-wide supply chain challenges that have been experienced since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It is no secret that there has been a significant shortage of building materials and delays in the supply of materials to Australia, so we wanted to do all we could to give our building and trade customers some security around this,” Mr Hutchins said.

Sunshine Coast’s Gen One Men’s housing project officially opens in Nambour

The Shack in Nambour is officially opening the only men’s housing project on the Sunshine Coast, with the help of $500,000 in federal funding secured by Member for Fairfax, Ted O’Brien.

Designed to integrate homeless men into the community, Gen One includes a community hub for its residents as well as six fully self-contained units, six for residents including one with disability access, as well as a unit for an onsite manager.

The Shack Pastor Dale Dowler said the project would make a huge difference in the lives of the men who would pass through the new facility.

Member for Fairfax, Ted O’Brien said he was delighted to officially open the facility, with the $500,000 funding provided by the Federal Government, delivering on a 2019 election commitment.

“When Dale approached me in 2019 with plans to build a shelter to house homeless men, the first of its kind between Brisbane and Maryborough, I went to work determined to make it happen,” Mr O’Brien said.

Buderim Foundation provides support to local families for school expenses

The Buderim Foundation is supporting local families with school expenses through the provision of $30,000 worth of $50 vouchers, to be distributed through schools and community organisations.

The 600 vouchers will be distributed through Buderim Mountain State School, Chancellor State College, Mountain Creek State Primary School, Mountain Creek State High School, Kuluin State School and SunnyKids, as part of the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) Back to School Program.

Buderim Foundation Director Rebecca Ramsay said this year is the 18th year Buderim Foundation together with the FRRR had provided the much-needed assistance for school expenses such as clothing, shoes, and stationery.

Mrs Ramsay said this year the funds included an allocation from the FRRR of $20,000, as well as a further $5000 from the FRRR Matched Funding program which was matched to funds contributed by the BWMCA ($1000), Buderim Lions ($1500), and the Buderim Foundation’s Thompson Fund ($2500).

Sunshine Mitre 10 offers support to Gympie community groups as they clean up flood damage

Sunshine Mitre 10, like many other local businesses, is doing what it can to assist Gympie to recover from the devastating flood damage experienced over the past week, donating $20,000 worth of materials to assist.

Sunshine Mitre 10 General Manager Neil Hutchins said $2,000 accounts have been established for 10 local community organisations which were heavily affected by flooding, so they could get the supplies they needed most.

“This flood event has affected so many in the community that as locals we wanted to do something to help,” Mr Hutchins said.

New North Lakes Mitre 10 store to cater for increasing trade demand

Sunshine Mitre 10 will next year build a new store in North Lakes to service the strong and increasing demand from the building and trade sector in the area.

Plans for the store at Stapylton St have been approved by Moreton Bay Council and construction is expected to commence early in the new year.

Sunshine Mitre 10 General Manager, Neil Hutchins said the new store would complement other stores in the Mitre 10 network in the South East Queensland region.
