Sunshine Mitre 10 invests in lifesaving defibrillators for every store

WITH 18 stores throughout Queensland, Sunshine Mitre 10, one of the largest independently operated and owned hardware suppliers in Queensland, have invested in lifesaving defibrillators for all its stores.

Sunshine Mitre 10 general manager Neil Hutchins said the defibrillators were an investment in emergency health care not just for their staff, but also for the communities in which they operate.

“We have over 400 staff across our locations, and we take our duty of care very seriously so we have first aid officers at each location, and now we also have defibrillators which can help save lives for anyone experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest,” Mr Hutchins said.

“But it’s not only that, many of our stores are in regional and remote locations so by having a defibrillator on-site, it also makes these lifesaving devices more accessible to the local communities.

“And while it’s a very big investment, if we can save just one life, it will be money very well spent.”

The Breakfast will see Sunshine Coast business people come together and give them the opportunity to hear from 2019 Award winners, Australian chef, restaurateur & media personality Peter Kuruvita from Noosa Beach House, Vicci Oliver from Wildlings Forest School, and Brigid Woolnough from Kokopod, about how to set themselves up for success with their applications for this year’s Awards and how they navigated COVID to “Bounce Back Better”.

Suncoast Spinners president Bridie Kean said the club offered social wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby sessions every week, for people of all ages, with and without a disability.

“When people think of wheelchair sport, they sometimes assume that its only for people who use a wheelchair in their everyday life, but it can be fun for everyone,” Bridie said.

“Even at an elite level, there are people with a disability and people without any disability playing these sports because of the unique challenges and competition opportunities they provide.”

Buderim Foundation Alistair and Santin Cook

Love of community burns bright through the years

Within the Buderim Foundation’s growing family of donors, Ambassadors and volunteers, there are literally countless stories of generous giving, whether it be time, talent or treasure… or in many cases, a combination of all three. Since the Foundation’s launch in 2004, it is these many individual stories that collectively add up to an immensely powerful big story of success we can all be proud of.

One of these is a standout and deserves celebrating. Well known in the community as the face of Buderim Pharmacy, Alistair and Santina Cook, along with their pharmacy partners at the time, made a bold decision to get behind the Buderim Foundation as inaugural sponsors when it was in its infancy 15 years ago. Alistair and Santina have been committed supporters ever since. Indeed, the cumulative contribution through the years puts them in a very special gold standard category!
