Just four months after forming, Musos 4 Mates @ The Dock Mooloolaba has held their second fundraising event raising $4,128.50 for IFYS Foster Care, bringing the total raised for locals in need to more than $6,700.
The brainchild of The Dock Mooloolaba owner Jared Hart and musician and friend John Veloso, the concept of Musos 4 Mates is simple – musicians coming together to donate their time, with The Dock Mooloolaba providing the venue and local breweries and businesses donating kegs of beer to be sold and prizes to be raffled.
Jared Hart said at the event on Sunday they had more than 500 people attend throughout the 10-hour event and everyone was so generous.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone involved from the musicians, sound crew to everyone who came along.
“We were thrilled with the results of our first event and had hoped to raise $3000 this time, so to beat that target by more than $1000 was a surprise for everyone,” Jared said.
John Veloso said Musos 4 Mates wasn’t just about fundraising though.
“It’s a great chance for musicians to use their talents to help the wider community, but it’s also a great opportunity for musicians to get together and network and also for us to help nurture new talent.
“We had dozens of musicians perform on Sunday with musicians as long as 16-years-old. So often musicians are at gigs by themselves or just with their band, so these events are a great chance for us together and share experiences with each other,” John said.
“We are very grateful to all our supporters for this event including 10 Toes Brewery, Eumundi Brewery, Your Mates Brewery, Mooloolaba Music, Reflected Image PRoductions, Cartel Music & Events, Liquid Radio and Muso TV and we are already planning more events for next year, with different local charities to benefit at each event.
